Surrounded but Not Defeated: Living with Spiritual Vision and Faith
We are called and chosen to be good and faithful servants of God. Jesus said there is only One who is truly good, and that is the Father (Mark 10:18), so any goodness in us comes from Him alone. As we walk with God, we learn that faith comes from hearing the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17). This is why spiritual growth begins with staying in His Word and surrendering ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The story of Elisha in 2 Kings 6:8 to 23 shows what it means to live with spiritual vision. When the enemy surrounded them, Elisha was not afraid because he could see what God was doing behind the scenes. He prayed for his servant, and God opened his spiritual eyes.
“The mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17)
This reminds us that what happens in the physical world is nothing compared to the spiritual army of God that fights for His people.
Through prayer, Elisha asked God to strike the enemies with blindness (2 Kings 6:18). Then through wisdom, he led them to the king of Israel (2 Kings 6:19 to 20). Instead of destruction, Elisha guided the king to show mercy.
“Set food and water before them and let them go.” (2 Kings 6:22)
Because of this, peace followed in Israel.
Elisha’s life reflects the heart of a leader who empowers, intercedes, guides, and walks with wisdom that comes from God. But this calling is not only for pastors or leaders. Any believer who walks in faith and obedience can carry this spirit-filled boldness and clarity.
It is a difficult walk. Every Christian is called to defeat evil with good (Romans 12:21), to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), to be prayerful and watchful (Colossians 4:2), and to be an iron that sharpens another iron (Proverbs 27:17).
Jesus has saved us from the death that our sins deserved (Romans 6:23), and because of His sacrifice we are now called to live as good and faithful servants (Matthew 25:21). As we continue to follow Him, may we surrender ourselves daily, listen to the Holy Spirit who speaks to us, and let God’s Word strengthen our faith. Let us walk with spiritual eyes, with a heart fully yielded to God, and with a life that brings glory to Christ in everything we do (Hebrews 3:15).
In Jesus name, Amen. All glory to God.
