When Ministry Feels Empty: A Call Back to Prayer

Worrying about ministry never brought me anywhere. Akala ko na kapag lagi kong iniisip ang kingdom ministry, it would automatically bring me to higher heights of faith. Pero mali pala ako.

Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

When I saw how great the harvest is, and how God uses the harvest to bring more people to Him, I felt an urge to act. I believed it was conviction.
Luke 10:2 reminds us, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.”

It felt like an outward movement of the Spirit, pero deep inside, I knew I needed something to fill me, to sustain me, and to support this journey. I needed something within, not just activity outside.

So I started reading the Bible, and I was fed.
Romans 10:17 – “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.”

I listened to preaching, and I was fed again.

Pero kahit may Word, may kulang.
“I need to make it more personal,” sabi ko sa sarili ko.

I looked, I prayed, I searched, pero hindi ko mahanap kung ano yung nawawala. As time passed, mas nakita ko pa yung problems kaysa solutions. Hanggang sa wala na akong choice kundi isuko lahat kay Lord.

I prayed, “Lord, Ikaw na bahala. Hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko.”
1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

While writing this reflection about the last couple of years of wanting to do God’s will, God reminded me of Daniel.

The man who was thrown into the lions’ den because of his faith. He could have hidden his prayer life, but he didn’t. He continued as usual, kahit may threat, kahit delikado na buhay niya.

Daniel 6:10 – “He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done.”
It wasn’t pride. It wasn’t rebellion.
It was faith that is alive.

And what kept that kind of faith alive?

A consistent prayer life.
A personal relationship and communion with God.

We can be deeply mature in the Word, active in ministry, and full of desire for God’s work, pero kung kulang tayo sa prayer, we will always feel something missing.

Matthew 26:41 – “Watch and pray so that you do not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”

Then came a revelation.

I attended a conference, and someone preached about how important prayer life is. He said the ratio between prayer and ministry is 85 to 15. Meaning, we need 85 percent prayer to support 15 percent ministry.

It may not be a biblical formula, but the principle is biblical.

Jesus lived this way.

Before choosing the disciples:
Luke 6:12 – “Jesus spent the whole night praying to God.”

Before major miracles:
Mark 1:35 – “Before daybreak, He went to a solitary place and prayed.”

Even though crowds were waiting…
Even though needs were overwhelming…
Jesus prayed first.

The apostles did the same.
Acts 6:4 – “We will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

Prayer first. Ministry next.

I suddenly realized:
I’ve been doing many things for God, but missing the one thing that draws me to God.

Luke 5:16 – “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
If Jesus needed prayer, how much more tayo?

We need to go back to prayer.

Yes, we need the Bible.
Yes, we need ministry.
But we should not neglect prayer.

Not once in a while, but a lifestyle.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing.”

Prayer strengthens our reading, our ministry, our decisions, and every part of our life.

Prayer in secret…
Matthew 6:6 – “Pray to your Father who is in secret, and He will reward you.”

Prayer in public…
Prayer meetings…
Prayer as a habit…
Prayer as a lifeline.

Every revival in Scripture started with prayer.
Acts 1:14 – “They all joined together constantly in prayer.”
Then Acts 2 happened.

Closing Prayer

I desire the Holy Spirit just as everyone else does, but not only through the Word or ministry—we must also seek Him through prayer.

I see God building me up, filling what’s missing in my life. I already knew its importance, but I was neglecting it, not giving it the attention it deserves.

But after this great revelation and reminder from God—one that doesn’t just wake me up, but a whole lot of His people—I can no longer dismiss His call for me to go back to prayer.

God, I hear You, and I’m sorry for neglecting my prayer life.
Together with Your people, please help us return to prayer.
Please, send Your Holy Fire. May this revival You’ve allowed us to experience truly awaken us, so we may pray fervently and see Your Holy Spirit move through us.
May Your wonders be revealed to every person, and may they witness Your power and anointing through us.
This I pray in Your holy name, Jesus. Amen.
